@MoritzMuehlenhoff I cannot say for sure as I have not worked in this area for several years, but I cannot imagine that the situation has changed.

@MMiller_WMF We've been mandated to further increase global election turnout, as tools like mass email and central notice become less effective over the years we're exploring other ways to broadcast the election to the community. We're looking at folding in Notifications as part of the top-level communications about the Board of Trustees election., with the understanding that this is a rare occurrence and we only make the request with the understanding from the board that this election (and UCoC voting again within the year) are top-level priorities from the Board to community for democratic participation.

If you'd like to communicate with experienced software admins, the Znuny community forum is an active place to reach other users.

We didn't really need this.

The Meta page is currently at the title [[VRT]], which I think we did because it was previously at [[OTRS]]. I wouldn't be automatically opposed to moving it to [[Volunteer Response Team]] like it is on Wikipedia instead.
Ultimately, Wikimedians like acronyms, so we designated one for internal/internalish use.
OK, that helps a lot. It would be good to rename the Meta page, and generally avoid using the acronym if possible. In general, Wikimedians use acronyms ([[:en:WP:TMA]]), but for page names etc. it's secondary/just a shortcut.

This work will be scoped differently than "per project," it's too vast this way. We're better approaching it per topic across the wikis.

The bot on Commons is working to complete its template replacement task, it should take a few weeks. While this is going on, the migration organizing group will be slowing things down for a few weeks as we organize for the next steps needed to replace text on wikis and rename pages/have pages renamed. I'll update the task further at the end of the month.

We're making progress on our to-do list, we're nearly done with Phase 2 on schedule and getting an early start on some Phase 3 items. I plan to start drafting naming convention guidelines this week for sharing within the next two-to-three weeks.

we did also rename chapcom.wikimedia.org -> affcom.wikimedia.org in T41482 and et.wikimedia.org -> ee.wikimedia.org in T31919. Those being special (and in the case of chapcom, private) wikis likely makes them better precedents for this.
In all those cases we kept the internal name of the wiki the same (so you still need the old name in the config files), but the domain that users see/use was changed.

It's also risky given that it can bring down all wikis.
If there's problem with trademark or legal. We might be able to make it work (given that it's a private wiki, doesn't need wikidata, ...) with lots of efforts and testing but if it's just naming. Let's wait until the blocker task is fully (on my volunteer work roadmap)
Apr 16 2021
@Urbanecm thanks for the questions. We'll probably want to pursue this in more depth in at least a week or two. We're undertaking the renaming stuff so we can do it on our own pace and schedule before the time ever comes when we get an order to do this for legal reasons. This way we can plan at our own pace.

@akosiaris I assume the usual process of emails being held in queue during the migration will occur? My other question, we can assure people that if something happens this is easy to roll back and there's no direct risk of data loss, correct? (naturally there's risk involved in everything, I'm checking our tolerances).

Should become a separate ticket under https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/view/2943/ I guess, and this ticket should be a subtask of that new ticket.
In T275294#6972901, @Tgr wrote:Please do not rename anything on your local wiki, the migration project team will handle renamings as needed.
I think local projects, especially non-English ones, are better placed to figure out how to rename things. OTRS is the name of a software so using that made some sense (although it was always a bit unhelpful since it's not a widely known piece of software) but using "Volunteer Response Team" / "VRT" on a non-English project doesn't and a mirror translation might not work well either. Providing some sort of "branding guidelines" (e.g. one might want to make clear this is something run by volunteers and not Wikipedia Inc.) would be a better approach.
Okay, so to sum this all up:
