Thank you, @Aklapper. I'll certainly follow the guidelines and ask if unsure. Have a great day!

Hello! Could I be a part of this highly revered club as well? Community-Tech regularly needs to create new Phab projects, and while we have a few folks with these rights I'd still appreciate the ability to do it myself :) Thank you!

Hi there, could @MShilova_WMF and @JMcLeod_WMF both be added to #acl*Project-Admins group? They are technical program managers who will need to create projects/milestones/components/sprints/etc in Phabricator. Thanks!

Hi, I'm @Lena.Milenko new coordinator for Workboard and need permissions for creating and managing projects in Wikimedia Enterprise -> #workboard in Phabricator. I would be responsible for ticket status changes, tracking progress and sprint management. Thank you!

Hi! I'm part of the Web2Cit project (I'm doing some of the community work) and I'd like to make some edits to the project. Can I be given permission to edit? Thanks!

@Lena.Milenko: Hi, I've added you. (And feel free to unsubscribe from this task. :)

@Scann: Hi, editing a project itself (e.g. its description) should not require membership in #acl*Project-Admins; this is about creating projects.

Hi @Aklapper !
My name is Dima, I am a PM from S&F

I would like to ask you to give me permissions to create projects and manage boards in phabricator for a new project – Thumbor Migration. Thanks in advance!

For details on how and when we create projects, and which other choices/decisions to make as part of that, see:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Phabricator/Creating_and_renaming_projects#Creating_new_projects

Note that we usually do not create top-level projects for groups of engineering tasks. We generally use a tracking task for this (parent and sub tasks). For example, these tasks would be tagged Thumbor and go on the relevant workboard under Platform Engineering for the subteam or contractor board.

Thank you @Krinkle
I totally understand your point and big thanks for the explicit answer.

In order to track current Thumbor tickets and the new tickets that we are going to create for Thumbor Migration project, we would like to track these tasks on a separate board.
Can I get the permissions for creating a subproject for Thumbor component with following all the regulations ?

Thank you!
Please see additional information:
Project name: Thumbor Migration [Tag "Thumbor Migration"]
Project description: Thumbor – is a smart imaging service that enables on-demand cropping, resizing, applying filters and optimizing images. WMF team wrote a custom application to modify Thumbor functionality for their own needs, that has to be updated to a newer version. Software is written in Python. Wikimedia Thumbor used a community tool (Thumbor Community Core) to provide modifications as extensions to the Thumbor tool. In order to update Wikimedia Thumbor, we will need to:

  1. Delete dependency of the Thumbor Community Core
  2. Update Wikimedia Thumbor to Python 3 and Thumbor 7
  3. Provide Dockerization and migration to Kubernetes

Parent task https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T252719

@dima.batt: This sounded like a one-time request to me, if I understood correctly. Requested public subproject Thumbor-Migration-2022 has been created. Interested people are welcome to join the project as members, and to watch the project in order to receive notifications on task updates. Recommended practices for project and workboard management in Phabricator are available. Feel free to bring up any questions you might have about Phabricator or about best ways to manage projects in Phabricator. Enjoy!

Hello all, I am a staff engineer in WMDE, part of the Wikidata wikibase team. I would like to be able to create projects and boards so that I can track various tech related issues and tech debt.

Hi, I'm a Software Engineer freelancer at WikiTeq (Gerrit Group, trusted org) and we need board creation rights for the MediaWiki extensions we develop & maintain. I'll be in charge of the task of creating our phab board, hence this request. Thank you!

@xSavitar: Hi! You should already have permissions to create workboards for existing project tags. Do you also need to create project tags themselves more often/regularly?

I'm not sure if I can create a project at all, see screenshot below:

So, yes I'll need to create project tags themselves and mostly of type, MediaWiki-extension-<ExtensionName>. Thanks!

Sure, I've read the guidelines and will re-read and will come bugging you if I have any questions :)

Hello @Aklapper! I'm a project manager working with the Data Engineering team, and I need to create subprojects for every sprint. May I have access to that feature, please? Thank you!

Hello - I recently joined as an Engineering Manager with the Design Systems Team, and I am looking to help organize and clean up our board and sub-boards. I would like to be able to create columns, add milestones, and update ticket flows and templates, and it appears I don't currently have permissions to do so. Are you able to add me to this group? Thanks

Thanks @Ladsgroup !

Do these permissions take some time to propagate?

I might also need some sort of additional permissions. Just now I went over to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/subprojects/5858/ and "Create subproject" is greyed out / I'm seeing the message: "Access Denied: Design-Systems-Team
You do not have permission to edit this object.
Users with the "Can Edit" capability:
Members of the project "Trusted-Contributors" can take this action."

Are there any actions I should take / maybe I just need to wait for some sort of propagation? Thanks

You were not a member to Trusted-Contributors group and now I added you there too. Can you try again?

I'd like to be able to manage my own personal project again: User-MarcoAurelio however the project settings are locked to acl*Project-Admins and few other groups. Until October 16, 2020 I was a member of that ACL which naturally allowed me to manage that and other projects. I'd like to request, at Phabricator admin discretion to either re-add me to acl*Project-Admins or that the personal project settings be modified to allow me to manage it. I'd prefer to be back in the ACL as I could take on again Project-Admins and Projects-Cleanup tasks as before if people is fine with that. Thank you.

Hello @Aklapper. I am a Technical Program Manager for the Language & Inuka teams. I would like to be able to create milestones for the sprint work for the Language team. Could you please assist? Thank you.

When I try to create a project I get a message "You can not select this edit policy, because you would no longer be able to edit the object." I did not change any of the project policies. Maybe I'm not in Trusted-Contributors?
