Define Edit Review Improvements glossary
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Like all projects, ERI will have a particular vocabulary. We need to define which words we are using, why we are using them and what do they mean in the context of this particular project.

Examples:

  • "Edit Review Improvements"
  • "RCStream"
  • "RCFeed"
  • "feed"/"feeds"/"augmented feeds" or "stream"
  • "recent changes page improvements"
  • "special page"
  • third party tools
  • state table
  • good faith vs. bad faith vs. (probably) damaging edits
  • new user supporters
  • "vandal fighters"
  • " damaging but good faith edits"
  • "ReviewStream"
  • Newcomer
    • Very new editors: fewer than 10 edits and 4 days of activity.
  • Experienced
    • More days of activity and edits than “Newcomers” but fewer than “More experienced.”
  • More experienced
    • More than 30 days of activity and 500 edits (corresponds to extended confirmed)

Event Timeline

@jmatazzoni is going to write a text about the first feed about Good-Faith New User Support, so he will also define some terms.

Joe, when it will be done, I'll add these terme to our page on mw.org. Thanks!

(And thanks to @Capt_Swing for the first list.)

@jmatazzoni, have you defined terms or drafted something? That glossary would be a good step forward for the team, to have all a clear definition of the terms we are discussing about.

I'm raising up the priority. We need that glossary before we start any discussions with communities, to be sure that we speak all the same language.

We are still literally changing terms and definitions of terms on a daily basis. I would far prefer to wait at least until testing is complete and the interface and functionality changes have settled down somewhat to start writing definitions, otherwise it feels like I'd be creating a lot of extra work for myself and generally chasing my tail.

(Some of the phrases above, BTW, don't seem to come from public, wiki documents but from some of our planning docs, perhaps?)

Watching these daily changes, I understand it perfectly. I just want to have that glossary before I start to write user documentation.

Terms already in tasks' description have been picked up as reminders.
