Problem: When there is no subscribe link the ellipsis icon appears disconnected to the rest of the design
Possible Solution: Pull out the elements from the menu and display as links
A couple of options to propose.
Option 1: Remove overflow menu and make links visible
When there is no subscribe action then this looks better when the edit action is visible rather than just showing the ellipsis icon.
Option 2: Move overflow menu to top right beside topic title
This feels like the natural place for the overflow menu to sit, and when there is no subscribe action then the space it would sit just collapses. The slight drawback of this option is that we would need to reduce the space given to the topic titles which would result in more line breaks with long titles. The advantage of this option is that it is perhaps more scaleable should we have more topic level actions (copy link, report) in the future that we may want to include in the overflow.
You mean it would reduce the space of the topic title’s first line, don’t you? I see no reason for the second and further lines not to fill all horizontal place available, the overflow menu button is not taller than one line. This makes the drawback even slighter.
+1 I am in favor option 2. I assume this would have a small card with a dropdown of item(s)
Looks like we've decided on option 2, and it has already been implemented in T310914.
